How do I use Working Money?

Working Money is available in both a workbook and a website format. There is also a DVD. The website version has videos integrated into the site. This website and the workbook contain transcripts of the videos and tell you where you can find them on the DVD. Both the workbook and the website use the same text and include the same tasks. However, you might find the website useful as it does the calculations for you! Your information can be securely stored on the website so that you can access your data when you next log in.

Working Money is made up of five Steps:

Step 01: What is your goal? Step 02: Where are you now? Step 03: Are you on target? Step 04: What are your options? Step 05: Time to take action?

The five Steps are colour coded and subdivided into '˜Standard' and '˜In depth' pages. You can complete the five Steps simply by working through the Standard pages or use the In depth pages for further information. The Steps and sections are easily accessed using the navigation. You'll also find Help text throughout the five Steps. The text will say when there is Help available.

The following icons should help you find your way through the five Steps:

Video icon. When you see this icon you can either read the script provided or watch the video.

If you want to watch the video on the DVD the page always tells you which video to look at.

Task icon. If you see this it means you'll need to complete this part of the page with your own information.

You'll need to log in to the website for your information to be saved but this will also give you personalised results.

Helping hand. These boxes give extra tips relating to the material on the page.

Help page. This icon usually appears within the text and indicates that a help page provides extra information, usually to help you with a task.

Registering and logging in

The website version of Working Money allows you to store your information securely online. The advantage of this is that by saving your details the website will do any calculations for you and give you personalised results. You must be logged in for the website to save your inputs, but pages where you need to login to use them properly are clearly marked as you reach them.

If you choose not to register and login then your information is lost when you leave the computer or close your browser window; this means you won't receive any personalised results as you work through the site.

If you choose to register and login to create a permanent record the data is securely held and can only be accessed with your username and password. You can register at any time using the links available.

Watching the videos

If you have a fast internet connection you simply need the free Flash 8 (or later) plug-in to view the videos.

If you have a slower internet connection, or don't want to use the free Flash plugin, you can still make use of the online tools within the Working Money website. There are transcripts of the videos included too so you won't miss out or you can contact BOC Pension Services and ask for a DVD which contains all the videos on the website.
