Hopefully you've now got a good idea of your goal, but is it really as simple as that Bob?
Bob
Yes. Remarkable isn't it? But it's
something we so often fail to do!
The first Step in any plan, especially one that will take
many years to complete, has to be to set a goal. You then
need to work out where you are at the moment, what options
you have to move closer to your goal and then you can make
a plan, and only then take action. All too often people
come to someone like me and say, "I need to save some
money". Well that's all very well, but what's the point? I
mean, what makes them think they'll manage it? It's rather
like getting in a taxi and not telling the driver where to
take you. Setting a goal helps keep you focused and helps
you remember why you started saving the money in the first
place. You're far more likely to succeed that way.
Sarah
Well – there you have it. Setting a goal helps you succeed, whatever your goal is! To look a bit more closely at why having a goal is important and when to change your goal, as well as the differences between what you might need from your money and what you might want from your money, take a look at the Goal's In depth section. Otherwise, when you are ready, you can move on to the second Step, which takes a look at where you are with your money right now.
